This fund was created to buy personal, medical, hobby, or business supplies and services for Fred Patten. Contributions aren't tax deductible. If you know of a way to get them to become tax deductible, please tell Glen Wooten about it! Contributions should go directly to Glen, not Fred, because Medi-Cal will count any money given directly to Fred as income for that month.
So far this fund's biggest and best purchase was Fred's wheelchair. This has special padding for his right arm and right leg, so he's less likely to hurt them and not notice it because of his impaired sense of pain on the right side. (He can feel heat and cold and touch normally on the right side, but didn't notice any pain when a doctor lanced a finger on his right hand that was swollen to twice its normal size.)
On Thanksgiving weekend, 2005,the fund paid for a friend to drive Fred from Golden State Colonial in North Hollywood to the LA Airport Marriott Hotel for Loscon 32 and back again, an hour's drive each way; and including Fred's and the friend's meals at the hotel.
