Dear Mr. Patten:

On behalf of the Regents of the University of California and the Riverside campus, please accept my thanks for your recent gift of 838 boxes of science fiction books and related material such as t-shirts, posters, games, etc. and one computer/word processor. As you indicated, this gift has been directed to the Tómas Rivera Library.

Now, more than ever, the UCR community of scholars, students, and administrators remains grateful to our private partners. Your contribution of research materials allows our world-class faculty to continue to make discoveries with world-changing results and offers our students the benefits of your generosity.

I am delighted to report to you that we have exceeded the $50 million goal of our Evolutions: UCR's 50th Anniversary Campaign. To date, we have raised nearly $51 million, eight months ahead of schedule. This was possible because of the generosity of individuals like you. As a result of this public effort, UCR is able to enhance its academic and research enterprise, expand educational programs and opportunities throughout the region, and increase financial support through scholarships and fellowships for our most deserving students.

As these materials must be dearly loved by a collector such as yourself, I particularly appreciate your entrusting them to our renowned science fiction holdings. UCR is honored by your generosity.

  Sincerely
France A. Córdova
Chancellor
