2009

December

We can do it! The city has given us the go-ahead to finish refurbishing the dormitory in the Fellowship Hall, so once again we can house as well as host the events run by our bi-yearly visitors from Japan. This year's August/September events are over: we congratulate all participants, also team H.i. for winning the Iron Chef competition. What a tough decision that must've been.

We have also acquired the vdrcc.net address, which makes more sense than .com since we're not a commercial organization. Meanwhile, thanks to the observant student who pointed out that a page discontinued in 2007 was still up. Look for more frequent updates, now that it's obvious someone's reading this after all.

The Japanese students are back, and many entertaining events are scheduled.

And with the latest group of Asian students (part of the CVS program), once again comes the series of Fun Nights and other events as well:

Fun Night

Fun Night is a community event. Japanese students will host a dinner to show their appreciation to the people in the community. They will also give a brief cultural presentation about the history, culture, and food of each "theme" country. The schedule is as follows:

Place: Vista Del Rey Christian Church Fellowship Hall
Time:5-7:30pm

8/17(Sun Theme: Japan
8/24(Sun) Theme: Korea
8/31(Sun) Theme: China
9/14(Sun) Iron Chef
9/21(Sun) America - Farewell

This is a charity event and we appreciste your donation.

The Iron Chef Contest

Do you know the TV program called "Iron Chef"? Didyou know that was originally a popular Japanese TV program (Fuji TV)? At CVS, we modified the popular cooking contest to include business aspects. The original Iron Chef had time managment, and production management (taste) aspects. We added budget management (taste and money they spend on ingredients), and presentation skills (creativity of dining experience/atmosphere.) The Iron Chef schedule is as follows. Seats are limited so please contact us in advance to make a reservation.
Place: Vista Del Rey Christian Church Fellowship Hall
Time: 6:30pm for reception 7 pm Iron Chef

8/15(Fri) Theme: Spinach
8/22(Fri) secret theme ingredient
8/29(Fri) secret theme ingredient
9/14(Sun) Elimination round at Fun Night, cooking based on bible message
9/19(Fri) Final Iron Chef (Memory)

Again donations are appreciated (each team collects them after the dinner and these form part of their evaluation)

Wed, 20 May 2007

1) Unto thee will I cry, O LORD my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.
2) Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands toward thy holy oracle.
3) Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts.
4) Give them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their endeavours: give them after the work of their hands; render to them their desert.
5) Because they regard not the works of the LORD, nor the operation of his hands, he shall destroy them, and not build them up.
6) Blessed be the LORD, because he hath heard the voice of my supplications.
7) The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.
8) The LORD is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed.
9) Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up for ever.

--Psalm 28, Reda's favorite passage.
